But it is of great value as it helps you to focus on finding the right context for entering the market. Hence, the best way to gain more insights is by studying trading examples of trapped traders. In this article, we will cover three setups based on locating trapped traders on price charts. Traders can get trapped in an awkward trading position. Or they can get trapped out of a desirable trading position.

Expanding triangles are like outside bars. Both involve an expanding range and increasing volatility. An expanding triangle may well turn up as an outside bar on a higher time frame. As these patterns introduce volatility and uncertainty , they prompt strong responses from market players. As an aside, note the effectiveness of the top channel line.

It flipped to become a support zone ; look at the end of the chart where the market congested around it. You enter the market because you saw the preceding sluggishness context. Hence, you know that the failure creates a knee-jerk response that you can take advantage of.

Emotional traders are easily swayed by short-term momentum. You can find them trapped if you give more weight to significant market levels instead of short-term fluctuations. Go back to Example 2 — the bearish outside bar was in contrast with the support zone and the bull trend line.

Such disparities offer a sound premise for trading setups. The general idea is simple. Look for bored and impatient traders. This chart uses the Price Action Pattern Indicator to mark out the Hikkake pattern. The two-legged pullback in a trend is another well-known price action trading pattern.

Al Brooks popularized it in his books as M2S and M2B setups. The two-legged pullback in the diagram below shows a pullback upwards in the context of a bear trend. This is what the more patient traders do:. The concept behind this setup is similar to the re-entry trading strategy. The power of two-legged pullbacks stems from two groups of trapped traders.

The diagram above discusses one group. The other group of traders tried to go against the trend. You will find them in the trading example below. The Pin Bar is a classic trap pattern. You can often find it as part of the other strategies discussed here. It goes the distance to trap traders by poking up above a swing high or below a swing low. Also, its long tail confirms that a price trap is present. The best pin bars are those that went beyond significant swing highs and swing lows.

This is because many traders enter or exit their trades at major swing highs and lows. These traders, if trapped, will fuel our blast to profits.

Again, we are using the Price Action Pattern Indicator to mark out the Pin Bars. Of course, you can also spot Pin Bar manually. The indicator merely facilitates the identification. For traders who missed the Pin Bar entry, the bearish outside bar offered an excellent second chance.

A trend bar is a healthy directional bar. In terms of OHLC chart analysis, it is the most basic form of a trend. Remember that this is a short-term price pattern. So you should stick to finding fade trades in the direction of the overall trend. This example shows a test of a support zone. There are many ways to define a support or resistance zone. Here, we are using previous congestion areas to highlight the support zone. When two methods converge on the same price pattern, the confluence adds to our confidence.

Have you ever entered a forex trade that stopped you out before reversing into your intended take profit without you? Unless you understand how the forex markets work, this will likely continue to happen until you get a margin call. In this article, we will demystify the concept of forex manipulation. So you can stay on the right side of the market. Every trade in the FX markets must have a buyer and a seller.

Each order is matched with a counterparty that takes the opposite side of the trade. If there is no willing counterparty, there is no trade. Simple as that! This corporation would have a currency broker or a large bank execute the conversion in the foreign exchange interbank market. Due to the size of the transaction, the institutional trader cannot just dump it all at once as this will move the market and provide for massive slippage.

Instead, the trader will break the position down into multiple smaller lots icebergs and work the order by selling into buying pressure. This helps prevent other market participants from catching on to what is really going on. Market makers often force price into a level where there is a cluster of stop orders by manipulating smaller retail traders into entering the market in the wrong direction. The institutional trader market maker will look to complete their transaction once the desired price is reached.

This will often happen on a failed breakout of prior highs or lows. Once the supply hits the market, price reverses and starts to fall rapidly while all of the small retail traders that chased the breakout are now getting stopped out to the downside. This is what we call forex manipulation and it happens on a weekly basis in the FX market. Smart money bids the market back up into the previous highs to entice new retail longs into the market. As the supply from the sell orders enters the market again at this level, the market rotates lower as late longs puke their positions.

This triggers a buy stop release back to the top of the range, where the institutional seller is waiting. The institutional seller fills their remaining orders. Stop hunts and manipulation happen on a daily basis and are the main reason why most forex traders are unsuccessful. It takes time and practice to identify market manipulation and our Forex Price Action Video Series focuses on that!
